CONTACTING THE PUBLIC - Recruit
individuals or community groups that are willing to donate, loan or purchase
rocking chairs and infant equipment.
SPREADING THE NEWS - Spreading
the news is easy and costs nothing. We have always found that T.V.,
radio stations and newspapers are extremely cooperative and enthusiastic
about publicizing Project Caressing. Also, community newsletters
and church bulletins are eager to help. Flyers posted in well baby
clinics, shopping malls and senior citizen centers as well as speaking
to community groups and neighbors are also productive.
MEETING WITH PARENTS AND SENIORS
- Before a Caressing Room opens, the coordinator meets with parents
to acquaint them with the purpose of and the reason for Project Caressing
- and to inform them of what supplies to bring. The parents and seniors
should also have an opportunity to become acquainted with one another.
Special care should be taken to make certain that infant/parent separation
occurs naturally and gradually. The optimum age for babies in the
Caressing Room is from two months to two years. When suffering with
colds or other contagious conditions, seniors and babies will not attend.
INSURANCE - Often the question of insurance arises. We suggest that a Caressing Room be established in an on-going facility because such locations are usually insured for the public use of their property. If not, it is easy and inexpensive to add a rider to the existing policy. We have found that most institutions are quite willing to do this.
