You may want to include an exercise time in your program. Seniors usually like this activity. The Head Nurse or Activities Director at your center (if applicable) should be able to show you some simple exercise progressions that will target most areas of the body. You may enjoy including songs in your exercise program to "spice up" the routine, and to make things livelier. The following are some suggested songs to include in your program. While the children will probably enjoy all the songs, you should note the seniors' behavior during the songs. Some seniors may feel that some of the songs are childish, and be embarrassed to participate. Ask the seniors if they have any favorite songs that they would like to sing. Try out different songs and use those that work best for your group.
1. INTRODUCTORY SONGS - "Hello, Hello, How Are You?", "The More We Get Together", "Are You Sleeping?", "If You're Happy And You Know It", etc.
2. HANDS AND FINGERS - "Open, Shut Them", "Where is Thumbkin?", "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe", "Three Little Monkeys", Itsy, Bitsy Spider", "Ten Little Indians" (turkeys, Xmas trees, rabbits), etc.
3. ARMS - "Row Your Boat", "This Is The Way" (we move our arms, etc.), "Right Hand, Left Hand", etc.
4. LEGS AND FEET - "When Johnny Comes Marching Home", "When The Saints Go Marching In", "This Is The Way...", etc.
5. HEAD AND BODY - "Head And Shoulders, Knees And Toes", Hokey Pokey", "Looby Lou", etc.
6. CLOSING SONGS - "Good Night Ladies", "All Night, All Day", "Sleep Baby, Sleep", etc.
