Every worthwhile and successful
program evaluates itself on a regular basis. Evaluating the program
every six months is a good practice. This will help you to assess
your goals, and then redefine them or set new ones. It will also
help promote growth within the program, by periodically setting new goals
to strive toward. We suggest passing out a questionnaire to the participants
in the program, including those people at the center who are involved.
You should also make your own evaluation
of the program. Some questions to ask yourself are:
1. Am I fulfilling the goals of
the program? Are the seniors and children interacting at a level
that is satisfactory to me?
2. Do the participants seem to enjoy
themselves? Are the activities scheduled appropriate for this group,
or are they becoming too repetitious? Do I need t add new activities,
exercises, etc., or reduce the amount of activities for the group?
3. Are the participants bonding
with each other? Do the parents seem to work well together?
Do I need to find a way to promote more closeness among the participants
or the parents?
4. Am I happy with the environment
that I have helped to create?
Finally, give yourself a big pat
on the back for all your efforts in bringing "the young, and young at heart"
together. By being a Program Supervisor, you are giving a special
gift to the young and the old - the gift of yourself!
